Bio

Biography


Matthew De La Torre is a saxophonist, woodwind doubler, live sound engineer, and educator in the Los Angeles and East Los Angeles area. He is a graduate of Rio Hondo College and currently attends California State University Los Angeles where he studies music education, saxophone performance, and audio engineering.

At Cal State Los Angeles, Matthew is studying the saxophone under Professor Harvey Pittel and woodwinds at the Los Angeles Music and Art School with Dr. Isaac Lopez. He plays in styles ranging from classical and theater to jazz, big band swing, and salsa. At Rio Hondo College, Matthew earned an award for Outstanding Student of the Year in the Area of Instrumental Music and a Certificate of Academic Achievement for completing a semester with a 3.5 GPA or higher. He has performed in venues including the House of Blues in Anaheim, the Cicada Club in Downtown Los Angeles, the City Club of Los Angeles, the Biltmore Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles, and in various cities in Southern California. Matthew has also performed at the Paramount Theater in Boyle Heights with Oingo Boingo Drummer Johnny Vatos and recorded a fundraising show with Ozomatli’s founder, Will-dog Abers, for the Los Angeles Music and Art School.

 Matthew currently performs with Montebello’s City Band, the Wiseguys Big Band Machine, and is a substitute saxophonist for the Bangar Big Band in the Pico Rivera/La Habra area. He also supplies live sound engineering services for East Los Angeles College’s Big Band and Jazz Combo and the Los Angeles Music and Art School’s Jazz Combo. Matthew is currently pursuing teaching credentials for music with the intent of teaching at the middle school and high school level while continuing to work as a jazz musician.
